San Marcos residents who hoped to attend Farmers Fred’s Harvest Fall Carnival Oct. 24 will have to adjust their calendars.

The event has been postponed to Oct. 29 due to inclement weather, according to the San Marcos Parks and Recreation website.

The cancellation was announced on the San Marcos Community Service Facebook page. Officials said they wanted to ensure the safety of all of their attendees and felt it would be best to move the event based on the weekend forecast.

A flash flood watch remains in effect for San Marcos until Oct. 25 at 7 a.m. According to USA Today, authorities with the National Weather Service forecasted isolated rain totals of up to 12 inches in Central Texas by the time the storm system has moved out of the state.

According to the carnival’s Facebook page, Victoria Van De Ryt, youth program coordinator for the San Marcos Parks and Recreation department, is currently looking for volunteers for the rescheduled date of the fair.

Event officials said festival attendees should still look forward to the costume contest, haunted hay ride and carnival games that were originally planned.

The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. at San Marcos Plaza Park and is open to the community with free admission.
